Saumya Stevia

Saumya Dried Stevia Leaves
Stevia is a calorie-free (having almost zero calories) natural sweetener. It is often sweeter than regular refined sugar, and 6-7 leaves in a cup of tea are enough. Stevia is a good source of a bundle of minerals. It contains calcium, Sodium, Potassium, Magnesium, Iron, Zinc, Copper, and manganese. Despite so many advantages, Stevia has one disadvantage: it has a mild, licorice-like aftertaste, which is slightly bitter. However, some people enjoy it, and some don’t.
Stevia is available in several varieties on the market. Mainly processed in some or the other ways, each differing in processing method and ingredients. For example, Truvia’s, a well-known brand, combines original sweeteners and cane sugar. Companies make such sweeteners using rebaudioside A (Reb A) – a refined stevia extract and other sweeteners like maltodextrin and erythritol. During processing, the leaves are soaked in water and passed through a filler with alcohol to isolate Reb A. Later, the extract is dried, crystallized, and combined with other sweeteners and fillers. Pure extracts from Reb A are also available as both liquids and powders. Compared to stevia blends, pure extracts undergo many of the
same processing methods— but are not combined with other sweeteners or sugar alcohols. At the outset, processing destroys the inherent benefits of any natural substance. That is why any processed food item becomes harmful and is condemned by health seekers. The addition of other sweeteners brings it at par with any other sweetener, and Stevia is left just for the name’s sake without any benefit. In some people, stevia products made with sugar alcohols may even cause digestive problems, such as bloating and diarrhoea. The addition of some sweeteners may even be harmful to the heart.
On the other hand, dried whole green stevia leaf is the least processed form, as good as natural and free from additives. Even drying is done to protect it from becoming rotten and decomposing. If someone is lucky enough to have access to green stevia leaves or can cultivate them, they should prefer that.
Swasthya Bhandar’s dried Stevia leaf does not undergo any processing at all. Even for drying it, natural methods are adopted, such as avoiding the oven. We do not dry Stevia leaves under direct sunlight but in shadow sunlight, which keeps its nutrients and benefits intact with no side effects.
A frequently asked question is, “Being a calorie-free natural sweetener, can a diabetic person use Stevia?” Undoubtedly, this may be a debatable question. Research is still ongoing to find the correct answer to this question. This may also be important for these researchers because, as per modern medical science, there is no cure for diabetes, and an individual has to manage it with lifelong medication. However, our ancient Indian medical science has never considered diabetes incurable. All ancient Ayurvedic books (Sushrut, Charak Sahita, etc.) have mentioned diabetes as a curable disease and has been cured for many centuries. Swasthya Bhandar’s integrated therapy also follows the same principles. Since, with this therapy, diabetes is permanently curable in just 2 to 3 months, we do not suggest that a diabetic person use Stevia. We base our suggestion on three thoughts: a) Swasthya Bhandar does not possess the facility and resources to research the use of Stevia by diabetic patients. Also, b) we all have witnessed that much medical research go on changing after a few years, and c) it is also not true that a diabetic person can consume any natural substance, and that is why even raw honey is not allowed to them. So, in our opinion, diabetic patients should focus on reverting themselves in just 2-3 months rather than searching as to how they can use banned substances. Thus, we would say that dried Stevia leaves are an excellent and economical substitute for refined sugar and prevent many diseases, including cancer, heart and rheumatism.
