CARDIAC ARREST

Cardiac arrest, is a condition when the heart suddenly stops beating. As a result, blood can not circulate around the body and the blood flow to the brain and other organs is stopped. When the brain does not receive enough blood, this causes a person to lose consciousness and brain cells start to die due to lack of oxygen. Thus, cardiac arrest may result in Coma and persistent vegetative state, absence of identifiable central pulse and abnormal or absent breathing.

Cardiac Arrest and resultant conditions  generally take place due to untreated pre-existing cardiac problems such as Arrhythmias (Irregular heart rhythms),  Ventricular Fibrillation, Ventricular Tachycardia,  Coronary Artery Disease, heart failure etc.  Some other factors could be excessive blood loss, lack of oxygen, electrolyte disturbance such as very low potassium, electrical injury, and intense physical exercise.

CAUSES :

  • Life style changes – late night sleeping, inadequate physical activities, unhealthy food habits, Frequent eating of outside food
  • Stressful life – such as targeted working.
  • Genetic reasons – History of Heart attack, Heart failure or Cardiac Arrest in the family.

PREVENTION :

  • Life style – adoption of active Life style, doing Yoga, Pranayama and walk as a routine.
  • Stress free life (though not practical; but yoga, pranayama & walk help in managing stress)
  • Taking meals at proper times and adoption of Ancestral life style – taking uncooked food more than cooked one, replacing refined sugar with khand/ stevia, table salt with rock salt etc. Read Secret of Well Being at our website.

FIRST AID :   Quickest shifting to a Hospital –CPR, Electrical Impulse, cardiac pacing etc.

DIAGNOSIS AND TREATMENT : Cardiac Arrest is generally diagnosed by the unidentifiable pulse in an unconscious or irresponsive patient.  In all such cases it is most important to achieve return of spontaneous circulation without which patient can not be survived.  CPR, Defibrillation, and/or cardiac pacing are the modes of restoration of blood circulation.  Since, CPR, defibrillation and cardiac pacing can be used by a hospital only, quickest shifting to a hospital may also generally take some time which may prove futile and fatal.  However, given below are some precursor (pre symptoms) of cardiac arrest and also some homoeopathic medicines which if given timely (before cardiac attest), on appearance of  these precursor or symptoms, cardiac arrest can be totally avoided.  Even on cardiac arrest, while moving the patient to a hospital, if a homoeopathic medicine as mentioned below is given to the patient, he will definitely survive for some time; sufficiently more than he would otherwise had and he will reach the hospital in a condition when with the help of CPR Defibrillation, cardiac pacing etc the hospital would be able to save his life.  Generally speaking, in more than 80% cases of cardiac arrest hospitals remain unable to help mainly because of delay that takes place in shifting the patient to the hospital.  In most of such cases, below mentioned homoeopathic medicines will certainly help in shifting the patient to the hospital in a condition when the Doctors of the hospital find themselves competent to retore blood circulation and save the patient.

PRECURSOR :

  • Irregular Heart Beat. Missing of some heart beats in between.
  • Light headedness
  • Vertigo
  • B P fluctuation
  • Heaviness in the Heart, tightness in the heart
  • Nervousness ( confusedness, malaise, ghabrahat)

HOMOEOPATHIC MEDICINES :

All susceptible person, those suffering from any cardiac problems, leading a stressful, inactive life etc, in short having any risk factor must always keep in their pocket one or two doses of the following Biochemic combination and must immediately take it as soon as they feel that heart is sinking, Ghabrahat, heaviness or tightness in the heart, light headedness etc. It must be remembered that in case of cardiac arrest no one gets time to call or to go to a Doctor. Even calling an Ambulance will take time while the medicines given below will effect within a minute provided this is readily available with him at that time. There will be no time even to open phials of these medicines and take just one tablet from each phials of all these. the Bio Combination is as under : –

Calccarea Fluor 3 X, Calcarea Phos 3X, Kali Mur 3X, , Kali Phos 3 X, Natrum Mur 3X and Silicia 12X – one pill of each.  Although, just one dose is enough to avoid Cardiac Arrest, still in case of need another dose may be repeated at a gap of 5 to 15 minutes.

Some other Homoeopathic medicines of vital importance are given below and these can be used even after cardiac arrest at every 5 – 10 minute gap till the patient reaches the hospital. It will help in shifting the patient to the hospital in a condition when the Doctors of the hospital find themselves competent to retore blood circulation and save the patient. These medicines are as under : –

  1. In case of Sor Breath Feeling (Shortness of breath, uncomfortable feeling of not being able to breathe normally or deeply enough. It can feel like running out of air or chest is tight) – Arnica 30.
  2. Shortness of breath with Nervousness, anxiousness and marked restlessness (changing position continuously, Unable to lie down, feels comfortable sitting up) , extreme fear of being left alone. Sometimes only moaning is seen in the patient, intolerance to any cold air or draft of air, head may feel slightly heavy. The scalp may be sometimes sensitive to touch. The eyes are either sunken or protruding, eyelids may look a little oedematous The lips appear little blackish and the tongue is bluish-white, or it looks very red, but in general it is a dry tongue. The person may grind the teeth in the unconscious state or he may bite the glass while drinking. if the patient is a little conscious and he cannot bear the smell or sight or thought of food and there is unquenchable thirst for ice cold water, drinks too frequently but very little at a time. – Arsenicum album 30
  3. Chyne stoke respiration (a specific form of periodic breathing -waxing and waning amplitude of flow or tidal volume – characterized by a crescendo-decrescendo pattern of respiration between central apneas or central hypopneas). Cold face  due to cold sweat on the forehead, but the head is hot, and extremities are cold, need excessive fanning, but despite the fanning, the head remains hot. The breath is also cold and the tongue is black, swollen and covered with white- yellow brown mucous,  twitching of the upper lip. Blue, icy cold body. Slight epistaxis (Bleeding) from the nose, the pupils do not react to light, i.e. when one throws light on the pupil with a torch the pupils will not show any reaction. Extremely offensive or horrible smell from the mouth., heart failures are almost always accompanied by a stage of shock. One can hear a typical rattling in the throat (not in the chest)  when patients are in a comatose or unconscious condition due to cardiac asystole ( the most serious form of cardiac arrest which is usually irreversible. –   Carbo Veg 30
  4. Abnormally slow, weak, irregular, intermittent pulse. extremely cold skin to touch, and a constant state of drowsiness. The patient talks little bit and he drops to sleep.  Most times, anxious feelings and heart palpitations come and go quickly. Any least movement causes severe palpitation, sensation as if heart would cease beating. The eye and the conjunctiva appears slightly yellowish, the pupils can be little irregular, the eyes can be bluish but the veins are distended in the eyes. The tongue could be blue, clean with nausea and vomiting, or it could be thick, or flabby. The patient cannot expectorate and if the patient has to expectorate he will only vomit due to severe congestion. This causes great weakness in the chest, he cannot even bear to talk, he suffocates and he drops to sleep. The heart will be hypertrophied (thickened heart muscles) or dilated, there can be cardiac dropsy and the root cause behind this cardiac problem will be either severe grief or some depression. – Digitalis Q (10 to 20 drops).
  5. Extreme palpitation visible even if bearing a shirt. Breathlessness – must lie on the right side with head high – Spigelia 30
