MSRT (Mind Sound Resonance Technique)

MSRT – The Nine Stages

Mind Sound Resonance Technique (MSRT) is a guided yogic relaxation and meditation practice that uses the vibrations of sacred sounds and mantras to harmonize the body, mind, and emotions. Through the resonance of sound, practitioners gradually experience deep physical relaxation, mental calmness, and heightened inner awareness.

The practice of MSRT is completed in the following nine stages:

  • 01Opening Prayer with Sankalpa (Positive Resolve). Begin the practice with a short prayer followed by a positive Sankalpa (resolve or affirmation), repeated mentally with sincerity and conviction.
  • 02Three Rounds of A-U-M Chanting. Chant the three syllables A, U, and M three times, allowing their vibrations to resonate throughout the body.
  • 03Three Rounds of Audible and Silent A-U-M Chanting. Practise A-U-M chanting in both forms: Ahata (audible chanting with sound) and Anahata (silent mental chanting without producing any sound). Perform three rounds of each.
  • 04Three Rounds of Maha Mrityunjaya Mantra Chanting. Chant the Maha Mrityunjaya Mantra three times with full awareness, allowing its sound vibrations to create a deep sense of peace and inner harmony.
  • 05Three Rounds of Audible and Silent Maha Mrityunjaya Mantra Chanting. Repeat the Maha Mrityunjaya Mantra in both forms: Ahata (audible chanting) and Anahata (silent mental chanting). Perform three rounds of each.
  • 06Three Rounds of Silent A-U-M Chanting. Practise Anahata A-U-M chanting, mentally repeating the sacred syllable without any vocalization, while maintaining complete awareness of the subtle inner vibrations.
  • 07Experience the Resonance. Remain in silence and observe the resonance and vibrations produced by the chanting. Experience how these subtle vibrations spread throughout the body, reaching every organ, every tissue, and every cell, bringing a profound sense of relaxation, harmony, and inner stillness.
  • 08Repeat the Sankalpa. Mentally repeat your positive Sankalpa nine times with complete faith, clarity, and emotional involvement.
  • 09Closing Peace Prayer. Conclude the practice with a peace prayer, allowing yourself to remain for a few moments in silence, absorbing the calmness and serenity generated by the practice.

MSRT – Preparation

Lie comfortably in Shavasana (Corpse Pose) on a yoga mat or a firm bed, or sit comfortably on a chair with your spine erect and your body completely relaxed.

Gently close your eyes.

Bring your awareness to your natural breathing. With every inhalation, feel fresh energy flowing into your body. With every exhalation, visualize all toxins, fatigue, and stress leaving your body.

Gradually allow your inhalation and exhalation to become smooth, rhythmic, and balanced.

Now make a Sankalpa (positive resolve). Keep it completely personal and do not share it with anyone. Your Sankalpa should be short, clear, specific, and expressed in positive language.

1. Chant the Maha Mrityunjaya Mantra

Om Tryambakam Yajāmahe Sugandhim Puṣṭi-Vardhanam
Urvārukamiva Bandhanān Mṛtyor Mukṣīya Mā’mṛtāt॥

As you chant the mantra, become aware of the subtle vibrations produced throughout your body. Simultaneously contemplate its meaning:

“I surrender myself to the Three-Eyed Lord (Lord Shiva), who is fragrant and the nourisher of all beings. Just as a ripe fruit naturally separates from the vine, may I also be liberated from mortality, fear, and all forms of bondage, and attain the state of immortality.”

Remain aware of the peace and harmony created by the vibrations of the mantra.

A-U-M Resonance Practice – Round One

Bring your awareness to the lower part of the body, from the feet to the lower waist.

Chant the A-kara (the sound “A”).

Feel the vibrations produced by the sound resonating throughout the region below the navel, filling the lower body with relaxation and energy.

Now shift your awareness to the middle part of the body, from the waist to the shoulders.

Chant the U-kara (the sound “U”).

Feel the resonance spreading throughout the middle part of the body, from the navel to the throat, bringing harmony and relaxation.

Now bring your awareness to the upper part of the body, from the neck to the head.

Chant the M-kara (the humming sound “Mmm”).

Feel the gentle vibrations spreading throughout the neck, face, head, and brain, producing profound calmness and relaxation.

Now expand your awareness to the entire body.

Chant A-U-M together.

Experience the vibrations flowing through the whole body—from the tips of the toes to the crown of the head—bringing every organ, every tissue, and every cell into complete harmony.

A-U-M Resonance Practice – Round Two

Repeat the same sequence.

Chant:

Experience the vibrations throughout the middle part of the body, from the navel to the throat.

M……………………………………………….

Feel the resonance throughout the upper body, from the neck to the head.

Now chant:

Experience the vibrations spreading through every part of your body, from the toes to the head, creating deeper relaxation than before.

A-U-M Resonance Practice – Round Three

Repeat the entire sequence once more.

Chant:

Experience the vibrations filling the entire lower body below the navel.

U……………………………………………….

Feel the resonance becoming deeper throughout the middle region, extending from the navel to the throat.

M……………………………………………….

Experience the subtle vibrations spreading throughout the neck, face, brain, and the entire upper body.

Finally, chant:

A…………………U…………………M…………………

Allow the resonance of A-U-M to permeate every part of your body—from the tips of your toes to the crown of your head. Feel every muscle relaxing, every organ becoming calm, every cell vibrating with peace, and the entire body entering a state of deep and complete relaxation.

Stage Three – Ahata & Anahata Chanting – Round 1 (3A)

In the third stage, the same sequence is practised using Ahata (audible chanting) followed by Anahata (silent mental chanting). During Ahata, chant aloud with sound. During Anahata, repeat the same sound only mentally, without producing any external sound, while experiencing its subtle inner resonance.

Bring your awareness to the lower part of the body, from the feet to the waist.

Practise Ahata chanting of ‘A’ (Akara):

Fourth Stage – Mahamrityunjaya Mantra (Three Chants)

4a. Chant the Mahamrityunjaya Mantra
Recite the Mahamrityunjaya Mantra slowly and mindfully:

Om Tryambakaṁ Yajāmahe Sugandhiṁ Puṣṭi-Vardhanam
Urvārukamiva Bandhanān Mṛtyor Mukṣīya Mā’mṛtāt॥

As you chant, feel the vibrations and resonance of the mantra spreading throughout your entire body, reaching every organ, every tissue, and every cell.

4b. Second Chanting of the Mahamrityunjaya Mantra
Again, recite:

Om Tryambakaṁ Yajāmahe Sugandhiṁ Puṣṭi-Vardhanam
Urvārukamiva Bandhanān Mṛtyor Mukṣīya Mā’mṛtāt॥

Allow the sound vibrations generated by the mantra to permeate your whole body. Experience the soothing resonance flowing through every part of your being, bringing calmness, healing, and deep relaxation.

4c. Third Chanting of the Mahamrityunjaya Mantra
Recite once more:

Om Tryambakaṁ Yajāmahe Sugandhiṁ Puṣṭi-Vardhanam
Urvārukamiva Bandhanān Mṛtyor Mukṣīya Mā’mṛtāt॥

Feel the powerful vibrations of the mantra resonating throughout your entire body—from the toes to the crown of the head. Let every cell absorb these healing vibrations, experiencing profound peace, harmony, and inner stillness.

Stage Five – Ahata & Anahata Mahamrityunjaya Mantra

In this stage, the Mahamrityunjaya Mantra is chanted alternately in Ahata (audible chanting) and Anahata (silent mental chanting). During Ahata, chant the mantra aloud. During Anahata, repeat the mantra mentally without producing any external sound, experiencing its subtle vibrations within.

5A. First Ahata Chanting
Recite the Mahamrityunjaya Mantra aloud:

Stage Eight – Repeat Your Resolve (Sankalpa)

Now gently bring your awareness to your Sankalpa (resolve).

Mentally repeat your positive resolve nine times, with complete faith, sincerity, and conviction.

Allow every repetition to penetrate deeply into your subconscious mind.
