UTKATA KONASANA
Method of Practice: Utkata Konasana (Goddess Pose)
-
01
Stand on a yoga mat with your hands resting on your waist. -
02
Place your feet slightly wider than hip-width apart. Turn your toes outward at approximately 45 degrees, keeping both feet firmly grounded. -
03
Without leaning your hips forward, exhale and slowly bend your knees into a squat. Ensure that your knees remain aligned with your toes and do not collapse inward. Lower yourself only as far as is comfortable while keeping your chest lifted and your back straight. -
04
Raise your arms sideways to shoulder level and bend your elbows to 90 degrees, forming an “L” shape (or “cactus arms”). Lift your chest, spread your fingers apart, and keep your palms facing forward. -
05
Focus on your breathing and take 5–6 slow, deep breaths while holding the posture. -
06
To come out of the pose, straighten your legs, bring your feet back together, and lower your arms to return to the starting position. Rise in the same direction in which you descended, maintaining good balance and control throughout the movement. -
07
Repeat 3–5 times.
Benefits of Utkata Konasana (Goddess Pose)
- Utkata Konasana is a powerful lower-body strengthening posture that improves stability, flexibility, and endurance. It increases blood circulation to the pelvic region, strengthens the muscles of the thighs, hips, buttocks, knees, and ankles, and enhances overall lower-limb function.
- The posture supports the healthy functioning of the reproductive organs, improves pelvic floor strength, and may help relieve menstrual pain and cramps. It also promotes better posture, calms the mind, and improves balance and body awareness.
Therapeutic / Supportive Uses For
- This asana is particularly beneficial for menstrual pain, menstrual cramps, stress, uterine health, infertility (as supportive therapy), pelvic floor weakness, digestive disorders, and calming the nervous system.
- It may also help in the management of lower back pain, toning the legs, reducing fatigue, improving body posture, enhancing lung and heart function, and promoting healthy blood circulation.
